Through New Ground, adults can book online therapy with a licensed psychologist, and arrange mental health testing and certification by message. You don’t need a diagnosis to book. Everyone is welcome, whatever your gender, race, religion, political views or income.

Therapy may be worth considering if something is affecting your mood, work, relationships, sleep or ability to cope, or if there is something about yourself you want to understand better.

Not sure where to start? A couple of questions can help you see your options.

When might therapy help?

You don’t have to be in crisis. If you’re not sure, think of whatever has been bothering you and ask:

  • How long has it been going on?
  • Has what used to help stopped working?
  • Is it affecting your sleep, your work, the people you live with?
  • Have you been dealing with it alone?

You can also book a session simply because you want to understand yourself better.

If you’d rather start with something concrete, there are three exercises you can try. None of them is a test, and we don’t track or store your answers.

In the first session you and the psychologist work out whether more would help. Prices and lengths are on the Services & pricing page.

These are different professions with different licences. Not all of them are available through New Ground yet, so each one says whether you can currently book it here.

If you think you need medication, see a psychiatrist. If you want therapy, book a psychologist. If you’re not sure, a first session with a psychologist can help you work out what kind of support may be useful.

If you’re already receiving care

Tell the psychologist you book with about any medication you take or other mental health care you’re receiving. With your permission, they can coordinate with another professional involved in your care.

When another service is more appropriate

New Ground is not the right place to book for:

  • Crisis or emergency support, or immediate risk of harm. Do not use the booking form for urgent help. The numbers below are available 24 hours a day.
  • Medication-only appointments. A psychiatrist prescribes, as above.
  • Anyone under 18. Sessions booked through New Ground are for adults.
  • A kind of care that isn’t available through New Ground.

If you are not sure, ask us before booking. If you need a different kind of care once therapy has started, your psychologist will tell you what kind of professional to look for.

If you need urgent help

These services are available 24 hours a day and are free to call. You do not need to be a New Ground client.
